Services

Project management. You can hand the entire project over to me. From concept to final files, I help to keep schedules on track through all stages of the publishing process. I know how important it is to communicate if problems arise. And if they do, I'll work with you to resolve them. 

Proofreading and copyediting. I can edit straight into InDesign or supply formatted copyedits using tracked changes in Word. All proofreading is completed in Acrobat, and I return annotated PDFs that follow style guides.

Writing and consulting. When writing for children, I ensure the style and vocabulary are suitable for the age group. I also write alt-text descriptions, artwork and design briefs, and sales and catalogue copy. I am happy to consult on a wide range of non-fiction topics to ensure content is error-free and appropriate.

Commissioning external contributors. I liaise directly with illustrators, authors, designers and indexers. I have extensive experience in preparing pages for design and illustration. 

Researching and fact-checking. I've edited many subjects that require careful research and fact-checking – from natural history to detailed science projects. I have a special interest in palaeontology, so if you need help with any prehistoric titles, please do get in touch!

Picture research. If there's a particular topic you need pictures for, I can work quickly and creatively to gather the best images and references it needs. I'm familiar with most picture agencies.

Updating and reformatting. A fresh pair of eyes can rejuvenate an old book. This may involve replanning content, text updates and fact-checking. I also repaginate indexes and Americanize text by working directly into InDesign or Acrobat.
